[Letter to William Holman from Samuel Dale
Mr Blower has informed him that there are neither charities nor almshouses
in Fairstead, and he knows nothing of Lady
Wydelia's chapel at Wolly Hall. But there is a separate 20 acre piece
of Glebe for which he pays £6 8s per annum to
Hazeleigh and this is called Lady Wydelia's. The Hall was purchased
by Mr Barrell about 50 years ago(1672) from Colonel Fynes,
known as Lord Fynes. It was recently held by Mr Newman Barrell and
he left it to his two sisters Sarah and Martha, of
whom Sarah has died leaving Martha as sole proprietor. Dale has a relative
who would like Locke's epitaph.
