THE WILL OF HUMFFREY BARRELL 1627
IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN
The fourth daie of Maie Anno domini 1627 olud in the third yeare of the raigne of our soveraigne lord Charles by the grace of our god King of England, Scotland. France, and Ireland defender of the ffaith I Humffrey Barrell of Istleworth in the countie of middlesex gent beinge at this present sicke and weake in body but yet in good and perfect mynde and remembrance laude and praise. I therefore give unto allmightie god and considering with my self the mutabilitie of this leif and the certainttie of death although the daie and houre thereof be altogeather purerfaine and to the end to be the better prepared and settled in mynd whensoever it shall please the lord of his mercye to take me out of this transitorie leif. I doe therefore by gods exermission make and declare this my present testament wherin is contayned my last will in manner and forme followinge that is to saie ffirst and about all thinges I doe comend my soule into the handes of allmightie god my maker hoping and assuredlie beleeving by and through the previous death passion and resurecton of Jesus christ his sonne my only saviour and redeemer to be saved and to have free pardon remission and forgivenes of all my sins and iniqities, and everlastinge leife in the kingdome of heaven amongst the elect. And my bodie i comitt to the earth to be buried in such christian and decent porte and manner as to the good discreton of myne executrix hereafter named shalbe thoughte fitt, and as touching the ordering and disposing of all such goodes chattells and other personall estate which i shall have or be possessed of, or that to me shall belonge at the time of my decease. I doe will, give, and devise the same in manner and forme as hereafter followeth. Item I doe will and give unto Savage Barrell my yongest sonne the some of one hundred poundes of lawfull money of England to be paid unto him when he shall accomplish and attaine unto his full age of twentie and three yeares. Item I doe will and give unto Gilbert Barrell my eldest sonne one silver tankerde guilt in full recompence and satisfacton of and for all such part and porton which the said Gilbert my sonne shall cann or maie have clayme challenge demande after my decease of in to or out of my goodes chattells and personall estate or anie part or pcell of the same in regard that i have already surrendred settled or assured unto the saide Gilbert Barrell all such customarie or coppihould messuages landes tenements and hertditaments with their appurtenances which i late hadd or was seized of, or that i doe nowe hould and inioye seituate lying and being in Isleworth aforesaide the same to be had and enioyed, unto and by the said Gilbert and his heires, or the heires of his bodie lawfullie begotten or to be begotten imediatlie from and after the deathes or deceases of me the said Humffrey Barrell and of Martha my nowe withe in such manner and to such intente as in and by the surrender or assurance in that behalf made & passed whereunto relacon being had it maie and doth mort plaintlie and fullit at large appeare; AEl which said customarie or coppihould hadd not benne thereof made and passed as aforesaid would otherwise have accrewed or descended unto the said Savage Barrell my youngest sonne and his heires by or accordinge to the custome of the mannor wherrof the same are or beene houlden. Item I doe will and give unto the said Savage Barrell my sonne one Silver Borole or cupp with a coper giult beinge of oulde fashion all the restand residue of my goodes chattells, plate, debts, jewells, vobeables hauthould stuffe and other my personall estate thereby unbequeathed ( my debts legacies and funerall charged being firstpaid deserted) I doe fullie and wholie give leave and bequeath unto the said Martha my loving with, to and for her owne proper use the same to be other ffree disposing according as she shall thinge good. Item I doe make and ordaine the said Martha my with full and sole executrix of this my present testament and last will, and i doe hereby alterlie revoake and disalowe of all former wills guifts legacies and bequeths by me heretofore made or given and this to stand and abide foroud as my last will, and soe to be accounted and non other. In withntb wheretofore I the said Humffery Barrell have to this my present testament and and last will sett my hand and seale dated the daie and yeares aforesaide. The marke of the said Humffery Barrell signed sealed delivered pronounced and declared by the said Humffery Barrell for his last will and testament the daie and yearto aforesaide in the presence William Temmat, William Smith, Nicholas Lyall.
